Cinnamon Bark

I love the smell of fresh cinnamon! Don't you?! I love it even more during the fall and winter months. It just brings the smell of coziness into the home.

History of Cinnamon Bark

The use of cinnamon dates back thousands of years. Chinese herbals from the past mentioned it as a treatment for diarrhea and menstrual problems. Cinnamon was introduced around 500 b.c. to the Egyptians, who then added it to their embalming mixures. Hebrews, Greeks and Romans used it as a spice, perfume and for indigestion. By the 17th century, cinnamon was considered a culinary spice by the Europeans. {soure}

Carrier Oils

I wanted to share with you some carrier oils that I like use when applying or mixing essential oils. First before I do let's understand what a carrier oil is and it's role with essential oils.

What is a carrier oil?

A carrier oil is vegetable or plant based oil used to dilute essential oils and carry the essential oil onto the skin. Carrier oils don't contain concentrated aroma.

Lemon

Ah, the fresh scent of lemon! I love that it gives a clean, fresh scent when it's used.

The natural occurring chemical that gives off this wonderful citrus smell is limonene.

History of Lemon

According to some research it's been found that the lemon is a cultivated hybrid deriving from wild species such as the citron and mandarin. The citron seems to have been the first citrus fruit known in the Mediterranean world. {source}

Lavender

Lavender is one of my favorite calming essential oils to use. I love the soft, sweet scent of it. I also love how versatile it is.

History of Lavender

Lavender comes from the Latin word lavare, meaning "to wash". The Romans and Ancient Greeks used lavender blossoms to scent the water bath.

During Roman times, the flowers were sold for 100 denarii per pound. They were commonly used in Roman baths to scent the water, lavender was thought to restore the skin. When the Roman Empire conquered southern Britain, the Romans introduced lavender.

Arborvitae

I wanted to share with you one of my favorite essential oils, well they are all my favorites, but this one I use frequently. It's actually up there with Melaleuca, Frankincense and Lavender, at least in my house, as the most used.

Arborvitae essential oil comes from the wood pulp of an Arborvitae tree and is steam distilled.

The top properties of this essential oil are antiviral, antifungal, antibacterial and stimulant. It helps to boost the cells to regenerate to promote a faster healing time. Seriously, this works wonders when it's mixed with Frankincense!

It has a nice clean smell. It's not woodsy like Cedarwood. It actually has a sweet smell. I wish you could smell it through the computer. haha

My favorite way to use this essential oil is to combine with the 3 essential oils I mentioned above. This is the Owie Spray blend that I mentioned back in June (HERE). I also added to my Everything But the Kitchen Sink blend, HERE.

Other ways to use this amazing oil are for respiratory, emotional balance and for sun exposure mixed with Helichrysum (like a sunscreen).

Fun Fact: Arborvitae trees can live for over 800 years. Arborvitae means Tree of Life.

Owie Spray

It seems like I'm talking a lot about miss Zoey these days, but who wouldn't, look at this adorable
face!

Anyways, she is my most sensitive baby, thus far, when it comes to her diapers. She always has a diaper rash, just as I get one cleared up another appears! I really have to be on top of making sure she stays dry down there. Well my solution has been the Owie Spray combo! This had been a life saver for my baby.

Everything but the Kitchen Sink Combo

Ok, so Zoey is coming down with something, not sure what it is yet, but her little body is trying to fight it. So I decide to make a combo that would ward off multiple symptoms. Here is what I came up with.

Everything but the Kitchen Sink combo

Peppermint (10 drops): as a fever reducer
Frankincense (10 drops): an enhancer to all the oils
Basil (10 drops): as an anti-inflammatory and for the ears
Lavender (12 drops): for soothing and calming
Lemon (10 drops): to help draw out the toxins
Arborvitae (10 drops): also an anti-inflammatory and also for its regenerative properties

I mixed them in a 10 ml roller bottle, and filled the rest with FCO.

So far it seems to be working. I'm using it in conjunction with Tylenol, b/c of her high fever, when it comes to my babies I don't mess with a fever.

Natural Solutions Class

This past weekend I helped with my first Natural Solutions Class. Although I didn't teach, but I took notes, I helped set up and prep for the class. I wanted to share with you a few ideas of things that I did to prep for the class.

For this class we decided to have rollerballs available to buy ahead of time for the class, to generate an interest in the class. If a participant ordered a rollerball we advised that they would need to pay the day of the class. We had great success with this. I ordered the Rollerball Remedies Make and Take kit from My Oil Business. This kit had the stickers and recipes to make the rollerballs. I ordered 10 mL roller bottles, a box of 24 from Amazon. I think that I used about half the box. haha!
